Seminar #2
Tom Tursi of the Maryland School of Sailing & Seamanship will present a seminar
Preparing For Your First Offshore Passage using a cruise from Norfolk to Bermuda and
return as a case study.
Tom has completed 35,000 miles of blue water ocean sailing with about half of this in
Island Packet yachts. The Maryland School, located at Spring Cove Marina, offers all
levels of sailing instruction using Island Packet yachts, and has completed 60 Ocean and
Near Coastal Training Cruises since 1992 in addition to basic and intermediate levels of
instruction. This year the school completed six round trips to Bermuda using IP40s and
IP38s; 48 student sailors participated in this program. Learn more about the school by
visiting The Maryland School's website.
Seminar #3
Eric and Carleen Petterson of "Island Time" recently returned from a 6 and
half month cruise and will do a presentation based on this trip. They will cover basic
preparations, shifting between coastal and offshore boat configurations and their cruise
from both of their points of view. We all can learn from their experiences!
Seminar #4
Randy Pictelberger of Eastern Shore Marine will go over the Yanmar Diesel motor.
He will overview items such as fuel systems, cooling systems, electrical systems, and
maintenance procedures.
For the Children (during the seminars)
Sharon Gabor of "Galleons Lap" will be organizing a red cross kids (5+)
program. Also some basic games and activities will be offered for all children ages
12 and under. This is a wonderful way for the children to get together.
